How much pumpkin pie did you eat this past weekend?
I had a disgusting amount.
Doubt my skinny jeans will ever fit again.
And pretty sure the amount of pie I consumed is illegal in 3 or 4 states.
Anywho, enough about my addiction to sweets.
Lets talk some bid’ness.
I used to use an app called Email Automation on my Shopify store. In fact, I recommend the app in my course, Smashify. It basically wrote and sent out 3 emails to your buyers each and every week.
It was easy money.
It was also very lazy, and I knew it then, but didn’t care.
Email with an eCommerce store can be EXTREMELY lucrative, like Oprah-money.
Again, I was lazy and cut corners.
I recently switched to another email provider called Rare.io ($39/mo with a FREE 14 day trial), that is a typical email marketing software, you have to write the emails yourself.
Adam — how dare you?!?
You making me work more?
Hear me out — I was lazy and used an automated software. It worked well and made us money, but we could have done a lot better.
The thing is, our customers in our database were getting the same emails from us each & every week. In fact, they were getting the same promos on the same days.
We Grouponed them to death.
Meaning we hit them over the head with way too many promo emails.
As Gary Vaynerchuk would say, we were throwing all right hooks.
Like a 18-year old, trying to close on the first date, every time.
The amount of data Rare.io has, is unbelievable. They pull all data from the time you launched your store. They have every buyer, how much they spent, including lifetime value.
LTV is crucial for success with eCom.
If I can buy a customer for say $10, my LTV better be higher than that, or I will be out of business soon.
So I sent out our first email a couple weeks ago, below are the abysmal numbers….
So that went out to 4,625 customers who have spent money with us in the last 6 months.
And 3 people bought.
THREE PEOPLE…out of 4,600+!
I almost closed down the store.
And got a 9-5 job.
Those are disgustingly low numbers.
Bad marketer, Adam…BAD!
Honestly, I think it is because we promo’d them to death for the last 2 months. Now, we need to earn their trust back. And we will, over time.
So the lesson here is, don’t be lazy, like I was.
Email marketing takes time and work, but can also line your bank account with more green stuff. I would check out Rare.io, if you have a Shopify store.
I get nothing for this.
Just a very happy customer, and the thing is…the support is BETTER than the software.
P.S. I do NOT wear skinny jeans.
