I like reading.
No, I love reading
18-year old Adam would be laughing at that statement. I hated reading through high school and college. I never really read until I became an entrepreneur.
Ironically, what inspired me to become an entrepreneur was from a book I read (more about that here).
One of my goals this year is to read at least two books every month. Honestly, I came up with this goal before Mark Zuckerberg made it popular with this post. In fact, I started in November and am on book #7, which I should finish this week.
I am glad Mark has brought some attention to reading though. I honestly believe that if you want to change your life, the fastest way to do that is read 20 minutes per day.
That is my secret.
20 minutes a day is all you need. Oh, and I deleted Facebook off my phone. It took some getting used to, but my productivity has sky rocketed like 3,478%.
The Pew Research Center reported that nearly a quarter of American adults have not read a single book in the past year.
My Miracle Mornings
Now this is going to be an entire blog post soon, but I’ll give you a quick run down.
I recently read a book called The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM).
Hal, the author of the book, teaches his morning routine/ritual that he developed over the years. He recommends getting up an hour earlier, and practice what he calls, S.A.V.E.R.S.
S — Silence (sit in silence for 5 minutes)
A — Affirmations (read aloud affirmations each morning)
V — Visualize (visualize the life you want each morning)
E — Exercise (do some form of exercise each morning)
R — Read (pick up a book and read)
S — Scribe (writing in a daily journal your thoughts, dreams, etc.)
Now, I plan to write about this soon, but today was my 7th consecutive day of doing this exercise. I want to do a blog post when I complete day 30 and let you know how it has changed my life. I am actually very excited about writing that post, as I can tell what a difference it has made in only seven days.
My favorite part of my new morning routine is the visualization part. I absolutely love that part and have never really did that before. Not consistently, at least.
I am a dreamer, no doubt about that. I always have been and always will be.
Now that I am practicing this daily and enjoying it, I wanted to share what I am doing.
One of the really cool things about the Miracle Morning is Hal has created a Facebook community of 9,000+ passionate, inspiring people. It almost feels like family and I have only been in the community for a couple of weeks.
One guy shared the other day that he has completed his 1,000th consecutive day practicing the Miracle Morning.
How I Visualize What I Truly Want
So, someone posted in the group the other day that they were having a difficult time with the visualization part of their morning routine. I jumped in and listed off what I do, as it is becoming my favorite part of my mornings.
It’s something you can implement and it only takes 5 minutes a day.
I sit at the kitchen table, put my phone timer for 5 minutes, and put a pencil in my mouth.
What? (watch the 1:16 video here)
I sit in total silence (this is before Ava wakes up, obviously). I close my eyes and visualize…
- Laughing, smiling and being happy
- Walking tall, confident and my head held high
- Doing what is right, now what is easy
- My clients calling me thanking me for transforming their business
- Sharing stories of how their spouse was able to quit his/her job because the client makes enough to support the family
- How they now have enough money to put little Johnny or Susie into private school
- How they can spend more time with their family/loved ones as they have more freedom
- Other entrepreneurs calling/emailing me about how they quit their jobs
- Writing checks to 2 non-profits here in Las Vegas
- I visualize writing exact dollar amounts and handing them the checks
- I visualize the feeling I get when handing them those checks
- Writing checks to some family members (I visualize exactly where I sit when writing the check, dropping the checks off in the mail and our conversations on the phone)
- Giving the keys to my car to my parents (they only have one car, although that is by choice and said they don’t want my car). I still visualize it.
- Meeting Dave Ramsey and screaming “I’m Debt Free!” at his radio studio in Brentwood, TN
I visualize what I am saying to Dave (and others). I try and use all my senses and really FEEL it. I visualize the t-shirt I am wearing (plan to create one) when meeting Dave. I have an almost exact script of what is going to be said between the two of us.
I have a feeling when that day comes, I will already have a script memorized, word-for-word.
I visualize him saying, “Did you practice this?”
“Yes, yes I did, Dave”
Every single day until it was a reality.
I challenge you to try it.
Sit down everyday and visualize for 5 minutes. Try this exercise for a week. You don’t have to get up extra early or anything like that. Just 5 minutes a day for the next 7 days. You’re future self will thank you. I promise.
The amount of clarity you’ll gain from this exercise is absolutely amazing. The feeling you get from this exercise is nothing short of amazing.
You’ll smile, you’ll laugh and you’ll get absolutely enthused to live life on purpose!
What does that picture of the beach (I believe Santa Monica) have to do with this post?
I visualize living on the beach.
Always have, always will.
