So much negativity and blame going on right now with the results of the election.
It is something that has been lacking in this country for a long time, and I have seen proof of this in the last 48 hours quite a bit.
I was talking with my therapist this morning and she was telling me a story. She told me that she was out walking her dog yesterday morning at 6:30. She bumped into a lady passing out fliers at people’s doors for her cleaning business.
This was the morning following the election.
Now, most people, myself included, were glued to social media seeing what people had to say.
I have no idea why I did/do this, as it just makes me want to throw my phone across the room.
However, this lady was putting in the work and trying to generate some business. She wasn’t going to let who got elected stop or slow her down. She was taking responsibility for her life. My therapist told me that she was so impressed with her, that she took a picture of the flier and posted it on Facebook to let her neighbors know about this new cleaning service.
She was giving her an endorsement, without using her services.
She told me she had talked with the cleaning lady for a few minutes, and she seemed like a nice woman, hence spreading the word for her. I said, “actions speak louder than words and for her to be out there at 6:30 in the morning, the day after a big elections, tells me something about her character”.
I then told her, “I would probably hire her on that alone”.
Focus on the things you CAN control. There is no reason to stress or worry about things that you cannot control. I know, it can be easier said than done.
Here are a few things that are 100% in your control;
- Where you work
- What you do in your free time
- Places you want to travel
- Friends you want to hang out with
- If you want to exercise
- What you share with the World
- What you buy
- What you eat/put in your body
- Books/blogs you want to read
- Friends you follow on Facebook/social media
- News websites you follow on Facebook/social media
Here are a few things you have very little, if any, control over;
- What goes on in Washington
- The weather
- Your family and friends opinions of you
- The news
- Other people’s opinions
- Terrorist threats
Those are just some examples, but if you focus on that top list, I have a feeling life is going to drastically improve.
