I saw this somewhere a few weeks back and it spoke to me. Yes, much easier said than done. It sums up what it takes to win at the game we call entrepreneurship. It took me years to learn this, and at times, I still struggle with it.
You have to take the emotion out of it, which is NOT easy.
Once you can put emotion to the side, you’ll start winning.
I talk a lot about finding success with Shopify, and compare it to baseball. In fact, a couple weeks ago, I did a quick video explaining my analogy.
Pictures in the Park
Ashton turns one in a few weeks. Amanda wants to get a canvas picture of him, but we need the “perfect” picture. She got the kids showered and dressed for pictures yesterday. We went to the little park here in our neighborhood.
Getting a perfect shot of an 11 month old shouldn’t be too hard, huh?
It wasn’t as difficult as we thought, but we did snap quite a few pictures. Some he was looking, most he was not, or maybe out of focus, or him not smiling. We got a few good ones out of the 40 or so we took.
Kind of like the baseball analogy I used up above.
We weren’t going to take only perfect pictures. We knew we were going to both have to take a lot, to get the right shot.
In baseball, if you bat .300, you are almost a guarantee into the Hall of Fame.
That means you are OUT 7 TIMES OUT OF 10
Read that again…
They fail 7 out of 10 times, and STILL make the Hall of Fame!
Now did we bat .300 with our picture taking skills?
Probably not, but we did find some winners…
Like taking pictures of your kids at the park, or running ads on Facebook for your Shopify store.
It takes a few at bats to find a winner.
You just have to keeping snapping the picture, you’ll eventually find a winner 🙂
