It all started when someone in a Facebook group asked a question about the possibility of generating $100,000 in sales, in a month, with Shopify/dropshipping.
I responded, and I rarely hold back in these groups, with something along the lines of….
Focus on making $100/day before thinking about a $100,000/month
This was not meant to be rude, just some tough love, in a way. This guy was thinking big, and I was just trying to reel him back a bit.
I try to keeps it real in these Facebook groups, as so many have these ridiculous expectations when getting started.
Anywho, this guy ended up messaging me on a Saturday night, and I remember it vividly, for some reason.
Amanda & I were on the couch watching Dateline, something we love doing on the weekends.
If you’re at all familiar with Dateline, here is a Keith Morrison GIF…
For some reason, I really wanted to answer him right then, on a Saturday night. His message, needed a lengthy response, so I went upstairs to my office, to answer him from my computer. I very rarely sit at my desk on the weekends, but for some reason, I put Keith Morrison aside, to answer his question.
We went back & forth for a bit, I answered some questions he had, as he was just getting started with his Shopify store. Something about talking with people just getting started, fires me up! I think it’s because I know the potential this business has to transform lives.
A couple days later he asked if I offered coaching.
At the time, I really didn’t.
Over the coming days, I helped out with a few more questions he had.
We talked about more extensive one-on-one coaching, and we agreed to work with each other.
And today, I want to share his case study with you.
Brandon Monaghan is the owner of an e-commerce site. The site sells dog-related items that include everything from t-shirts to jewelry to basic dog supplies.
Brandon launched his store in early 2016 and sought out a coach to help him get the business off the ground. Unfortunately, the first coach he worked with was nothing short of disappointing.
“I was blown away how poorly done it was,” Brandon says. “The attention we were getting was little to none. Questions would go 24 to 48 hours without being answered.” In addition, Brandon says the coach promised things that never materialized, and sold Brandon items that were trademarked.
“I wanted to have a legitimate business, sustainable, and not piggybacking on someone else’s brand,” he says. Meanwhile, Brandon’s business was taking in next to nothing in sales. With so many red flags, it was only a matter of time before Brandon looked elsewhere for a coach who could truly help him scale his business.
Brandon was active on Facebook, and found Adam Dukes through information Adam was giving away for free. Adam was providing value all around, Brandon says. At one point, Brandon reached out to ask a question related to one of the free items Adam was offering. After several messages sent back and forth, Brandon knew he’d found someone he trusted and liked.
“He took me on as someone to coach, and it was a huge turning point for me in my business,” Brandon says.
Working with Brandon
At the start of their work together, Adam sent Brandon a set of books and a note.
“The note said hopefully I can help you quit your job,” says Brandon. “A few months later, I am almost already there.”
Adam’s work with Brandon included taking a look at everything Brandon had set up, down to a granular level. That included helping Brandon research a profitable niche and profitable products, how to test the products, and how to find winners from those products. Through a series of video chats and calls, the two kept in constant contact, and Brandon says Adam was available nearly anytime to answer questions.
Through a process of testing, scaling and working to understand the target audience (using Facebook’s tools), Brandon had a very clear path to success.
“When I started with him I had run a few ads,” Brandon says. “It wasn’t until I started connecting with him, working with him, that I really started making money.”
In a few short months, Brandon went from making a few hundred dollars in sales, to $50,000 in a 90-day period. Within a month of their work Brandon had too many orders to fill on his own, so he hired someone to do the balance sheets. A short time later, he took on two more staff members to help with accounting and graphic design.
That success was a very good thing — but it was Adam’s responsiveness that meant the most to Brandon and his business.
“If I needed him he would be there within a minute,” Brandon says. “You want someone to actually show they’re interested in you and that they care about you. That’s why I’d recommend him.”
Now, Brandon has done $50,000+ in revenue, not profit, I just want to be clear on that. Still, I am extremely proud of him, as he’s put in the work these last few months to build a very successful eCommerce store.
Also, Brandon WAS working a full-time job (he quit after 4 months of our coaching), so he did this on the side.
You simply have no excuses not to go out and do the same thing.
